New crops – new markets: Atameken-Agro sows the future
Chairman of the Board Kintal Islamov gave an interview to the global organization Global Pulse Confederation (GPC) and their podcast Pulse Pod.
In the conversation, he spoke about the current activities of Atameken-Agro and the strategic vision for the company’s future:
NEW HORIZONS: GREEN LENTILS AND OTHER LEGUMS
Atameken-Agro is one of the largest producers of red lentils in Kazakhstan.
In 2024, we exported 61,000 tons to Turkey and the UAE.
We are now expanding into green lentils and exploring opportunities for new crops.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO DIVERSIFY CROPS
Farmers are increasingly choosing legumes as a complement to grains. Atameken's current crop balance is: 50% grains | 25% oilseeds | 25% legumes.
We are also conducting trials of mung bean as part of our long-term strategy.
NEW ROUTES AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
Given the changing logistics, we are using alternative routes, including deliveries via Iran.
Priority:
Development of legume processing in Kazakhstan
Implementation of resource-saving technologies
Testing new crops with the Barayev Institute, including mung bean.
The interview also noted that Atameken-Agro is an official sponsor of the GPC 2025 conference, which is taking place this week in Singapore. We are pleased to have the opportunity to establish new connections and discuss the prospects for the development of the industry.
